There’s a lot to live up to in this age of social media.  We are bombarded in business and our personal lives with ‘the wonderful world of …’.  It seems everyone but us has beautiful, loving families and successful thriving businesses.

In all honesty, I’ve …

• yet to meet a business owner who doesn’t struggle and have hurdles to overcome.
• yet to meet the perfect mum, daughter, husband, son, friend ….

So why do we feel we can only show our best self? Why is it a weakness to fail, to struggle, to cry … to be human?

I’ve seen a couple of posts on Facebook recently where people have got real and shared their struggles.  I read “What I learned in 2017”  this morning which inspired this post.  He’s got enough money, more than enough work, he’s super successful and yet he’s had to make some serious changes to free himself from anxiety and angst, to live the life he wants to live.

In a pre chat for a podcast I’m being interviewed for a few weeks, the host asked me if there’s anything I wouldn’t like to share, or to have him ask.  That would be no!  I am who I am, not much to hide.  I know when struggling, it makes me feel less alone to know of others going through challenges.  That sads, mads and bads are all part of the journey.

I make mistakes, I worry about money, I’ve had my life falling apart and put it to one side to lead a skype or meet with a client. There are no sick days when you’re an entrepreneur.

I’ve also been the most fulfilled I’ve ever been, met the most wonderful clients, work with a team who support each other and are a pleasure to work with.  I’m proud of my business and it makes me happy to open my laptop every morning.  I’m a winner (can I say that!) but I’m a long, long way from being the wonderful world of …!

So if today’s not the best day, you’re not alone.  There’s a world out there of people crying, laughing, winning, losing, shouting, whispering, making money and losing it.  You just don’t hear about a lot of it!
